It is not at all wanted that one will ever need to take resort to wheelchairs. But, we often meet such accidents in life that compel us to be dependent on things or practices that we had never before even thought of. A dreadful accident can any day snatch away our mobility power and turn us dependent on the wheelchairs. There are also many ill fated people who are born with disability. And then, there is always the old age legacy. We often have to make wheelchair arrangements for the elderly members of our house. Therefore, it is good to have some knowledge about wheelchairs and their different types.

These days, you can find several types of wheelchairs in the markets that customize as per the need of the users. Some of the important criteria that the manufacturers keep in consideration while making variants of the wheelchairs are the dimensions of the seat, leg or foot rests, adjustability of the backrest, height of the seat from floor, and so on. Apart from these, there are also the optional accessories such as the safety belts, features related to the backrest; extra support systems for neck, etc. On basis of these, various types of wheelchairs are made by the manufacturing companies. Then, there are also the automated wheelchairs apart from the traditional manually operated wheelchairs. Many of these automated wheelchairs run on electric power. Needless to say, these automated wheelchairs are a lot more comfortable and user friendly as they relieve one from all sorts of physical exertions.
